concerning contracting marriage in Dänemark
Information concerning contracting marriage in Denmark.

If one or both of you have been married previously, you must send us all the documents in advance. Please note that you have to consider a case-working period of 2-4 weeks.

Necessary documents for the case working, all documents apply for both partners
- Hence you must have legal stay in Denmark, we need a copy of your travel document e.g. passport, id-card and furthermore possibly
- Visa, Residence permit, Entry stamp to the Shengen States
- Certificate of marital status (no older than four month) from all the places you have lived in since you were old enough to get married as well as from your present place of residence (if different).
- The certificate of marital status must state:
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Address
- Citizenship
- Marital status

But we also work with the few registry office, to require not the unmarried certificate from the home country!

The certificate must be translated into Danish, English or German if in another language.

- American and English soldiers, who are stationed in Germany must instead of a “Certificate of marital status” hand in a “Permission for marriage” issued by their Commander with their present marital status and address. You must also be able to document legal stay in Denmark.

- Birth certificate; if unable to obtain one, showing the valid travel document with presence of place of birth will be sufficient.
But we also work with the few registry office, to require not the Birth certificate!

Legalization of all documents can be required.
Should one or both of the parties involved have previously been married we in addition need the following documents:
- Divorce:
Divorce decree
- Complete original divorce decree, legally signed. The endorsement must bear the text ‘The Decree of Divorce has not been and cannot be appealed to a higher court. The parties are free to remarry’. Only decrees and certificates from the latest marriage should be submitted.

- The American Divorce-degrees have to be supplied with a stamp form which it appears, that there has

been no appeal to higher court, and that the person is free to get married again.


- The agency must approve the divorce decrees before you will be able to
get an appointment. The decree should be submitted in the original and in a translated version, if not issued in Danish, English or German. Translations alone are not sufficient.
- Death:
Death certificate
- Death certificates must be approved before you will be able to get an appointment. The certificate should be submitted in the original and in a translated version, if not issued in Danish, English or German. Translations alone are not sufficient.

Divorce decrees and Death certificates issued in countries outside the European Union (with exception of the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, a.o.) must be presented in the original with a Legalization/Apostille. The complete Legalization must also be translated and handed in.
Legalization/Apostille:
- Legalization: Tripartite verification of the original document (not copy of the original) via the Interior-and Exterior Ministry of the issuing country as well as of the Danish or German Embassy.
- Apostille: Single verification of the original document (not copy of the original) via the Exterior Ministry of the issuing country.

When you send your documents to us you will after they have been scrutinized and approved, receive further information. Upon receipt of this information you must telephone the agency.

The documents (or approved copies of these) must all be translated by a sworn interpreter into German, English or Danish, if in a different language, and together with the originals either sent or personally brought to us.
The translations of the documents alone are not sufficient documentation.

Please provide the previously mentioned documents as well as the form “Notice of Marriage” filled in by bride and bridegroom and as required by the Danish law of marriage.

Persons under the age of 18 must present a special permit in order to marry. This permit can be obtained at the us where you wish to marry (For further information call the agency).

The weddings can be carried out only into German, English or in Danish.

At the registration as well as at the wedding we can ask for an interpreter for you at your expense. The Agency can translate for you free of charge in German, in Russian, in Ukrainian or in Polish if you order our full service.
